Motorcycle Choose Options

motorcycle optionToday there are a variety of motorcycles available, something to pretty much any rider’s tastes. For those who prefer something more unusual, and have a higher budget, custom made motorcycles are always an exciting option. If you are looking into getting your first bike, you may well have looked online for reviews of different makes or models. This can be quite a daunting task. The moment you type a motorcycle related keyword into a search engine, you begin to sift through hundreds of advertisements and blogs that may seem of very little use. If you look hard enough, however, you can unearth a goldmine of information, from common faults with different makes and models, to general reviews and user opinions.

Magazines can also be a useful source of information, reviewing all sorts, from buyer’s guides to brakes for motorcycles. You may already have an idea of what your ideal bike will be like, but remember to consider all the practicalities such as your experience level and for what purpose the bike will be used. Like cars, motorcycles are changing and advancing rapidly, there are now electric bikes available, though they are unlikely to take the place of more traditional models any time soon!

Before choosing your first motorbike for definite, it is a good idea to spend quite some time getting acquainted with typical biking jargon and familiarising yourself with terminology. If learning to ride, you should choose a reputable instructor who will work at your pace and ensure you have a full understanding of how and why things are done in specific ways. An instructor should also be able to provide you with advice about selection of, maintenance of and parts such as brakes for motorcycles.

motorcycle optionsOnce you have purchased your own bike, get as familiar with it as possible. Find out how to use all equipment, and learn how to check levels such as oil. Get used to regularly inspecting brakes for motorcycles, suspension, tires and steering for any problems. Remember to store your vehicle safely, if it is to be kept outside, a waterproof cover should be able to prevent damage from rain and other moisture.

When you are proficient at bike care, maintenance, and have some experience at riding you may wish to upgrade to a newer or higher powered model. As when choosing any vehicle, look around to compare prices and specifications. If your find you want to upgrade anything, performance parts such as brakes for motorcycles are readily available. Try to choose a well known, good quality manufacturer, and get any parts fitted by a professional.

It is often not a good idea to start out on a motorcycle that is the make or model you have always dreamed of. Getting used to handling a bike and different situations that can arise on a low powered model is for the best. While you are honing your skills and learning to love life on the road, you can start to think about which bike is the one to make your dreams come true.

Motocross Gear With Style

Motocross GearWhen dirt bike racing was in it’s infancy riders wore whatever was available to protect themselves. Open faced helmets, Jofa pants, leather protection… as the protective equipment was not specifically made for dirt bike racing, riders looked more like confused hockey playing bikies than dirt bike racers!

As the sport (best sport in the world mind you :) became more popular, the growth was then able to sustain ‘parallel’ or complimentary manufacturing industries. Companies like JT USA, Sinisalo etc. could now focus primarily on making only motocross gear.

More money was now being pushed into research and development of motocross gear, sponsorship of riders and marketing programs. More emphasis was being placed on style so colour was added to gear to match dirt bike colourings or just to be outrageous and different. Pink was big mid eighties (I did not say it was always in good taste).

Motocross GearBody armour moved to be worn over the top of race jerseys therefore they became more stylised to appeal to users. In itself becoming a fashion statement, but was researched and tested to also be practical and offer maximum comfort. Today’s body armour has ‘floating’ shoulder cups as well as flexible back and side panels to cater for both sitting and standing positions when riding. Can come in a range of colour options including clear as well as built in kidney belts on some models.

Race pants received there own special treatment made out of heavy duty nylon with doubled stitching, extra room in the butt to cater for the crouched/sitting riding position as well as cordura, kevlar and leather panels in high wear areas such as the seat and knees. Spandex panels are used to allow for movement where necessary. A quality race pant will offer extra room in the knee area to allow for knee braces that more and more riders are wearing.

Jersey material went from cotton to sweat/moisture wicking polyester/cotton blends to offer greater comfort for prolonged periods of riding. Vented panels were placed in ‘hot spots’ and even little touches like rubber strips in the tail to hold them into the race pants on even the roughest ride.

Boots were being designed to deal with high impact landings and ultimate ankle protection. Replaceable soles and buckles prolonging their use. They are now carefully constructed to avoid the damaging lateral and hyperextension movements around the ankle area.

Dirtbike gloves – choose them wisely and make sure they fit correctly. Some gloves are better suited to certain types of riding than others. Motocross gloves offer better feel for the rider with less padding in the palms. Enduro gloves can be the opposite with more padding to give greater comfort for longer rides.

Motocross GearElbow protection can be found in a “sleeve” that also covers the forearms. Knee/shin guards are lighter as well as stronger and some hinder ‘lateral’ movement of the knee (gone are the days of using skateboarders protection). Although with the onset of lightweight, composite materials it is possible to have the ultimate in protection with knee braces.

All this protection would mean nothing if you cannot see. So it is very VERY important to properly protect one of your greatest assets (as well as one of the five senses) in your sight. Different goggle manufacturers have their own registered names for their lenses, but they basically mean the same thing – scratch resistant, shatterproof protection for your eyes.

So next time you go for a dirtbike ride, dress in the latest motocross gear and be comforted in the knowledge that you have minimized risk to your body as much as possible. That will allow you to focus on what you are there for… enjoying the ride!

Motorcycle Carbon Fiber Helmet

Motorcycle Carbon Fiber HelmetCarbon fiber motorcycle helmets are one of the most modern helmets around. The carbon fiber material used in motorcycle helmets refer to carbon filament threads woven into cloth or felt. It can also be a composite material made from carbon filaments that make up the protective shell of your helmet. This material can also be combined with another material such as Kevlar in the manufacture of stronger and lighter helmet models.

Carbon fibers in helmets are made by super heating an acrylic fiber that results to better strength and stiffness to weight properties. Carbon fiber composites can achieve the strength of metals at a significant savings in weight, the two factors needed in making quality motorcycle helmets.

Kevlar is created by dissolving a polymer in a solvent and then extracting the fibers and then spinned to form threads. Although Kevlar has properties that are similar to carbon fiber, it lacks compressive strength. By combining carbon fiber and Kevlar, one can get a laminate that has three times the flexural strength than that of Kevlar alone.

Carbon fiber motorcycle helmets provide a lighter yet more durable helmet than most motorcycle helmets today made from fiberglass. With carbon fiber motorcycle helmets, it is now possible to make more compact motorcycle helmets that are lighter and less bulky.

Most carbon fiber helmets are available for you from custom helmet manufacturers. But there are other manufacturers now beginning to make motorcycle helmets out of this extremely useful material. With it, motorcycle helmets become lighter, stronger and cooler.

There are now carbon fiber motorcycle helmets such as the THH T-69 that offers you a DOT approved motorcycle helmet. Its smaller shell design helps in making it ever the popular choice with most hot bikers today. There is also the HJC AC-12 full face carbon fiber helmet that incorporates racer tested features for use by the ordinary motorcycle biker on the road.

Motorcycle Carbon Fiber HelmetIt has features such as the Flow Through ACS Advanced Channeling Ventilation Feature System that provides extraordinary ventilation to make you feel cooler. It also makes use of an Anti-fog System to provide you with a clear view even in the coldest of days. This motorcycle helmet also has a built-in communication system speaker cavity to allow two-way or multi-channel communication when required.

With today’s technology, motorcycle helmets have evolved to provide you with better protection and a more comfortable riding experience. With all the choices now available for you, you would surely have that helmet that would work for you. Hot Bikers must be safety riding.

Motorcycle Helmets For The Youth

It is particularly important to be aware of motorcycle safety when it comes to the youth. You might have a child who likes to ride motorcycles. To ensure his safety, try to invest in a youth motorcycle helmet that provides good protective coverage and excellent retention to help lessen your worries.

Harley Davidson Corner

Youth motorcycle helmet safety also involves proper fit and sizing. Every motorcycle helmet dealer should have an expert available to help you find a youth motorcycle helmet that perfectly shaped to your child's head.

In looking for the perfect fitting motorcycle helmet for your child, it is better that you should bring him with you when you do your helmet shopping. This way, you can have him determine for himself if such a helmet would be perfect for his own use. Here are some tips that would be able to help you find that motorcycle helmet with the perfect fit.

Let your kid try on several motorcycle helmets for at least five minutes to check for any bothersome areas. Have him look in the mirror to check for symmetry and ensure that the motorcycle helmet rests just above the eyebrows and to check for red marks after taking off the helmet.

The comfort liner of a motorcycle helmet can form to the shape of your head so the helmet typically becomes more comfortable over time and use. Be sure that you start with a good fitting helmet. You should also make sure that the helmet you choose has undergone anti-scratch and anti-fog treatments. In addition, make sure that the visor doesn't touch the helmet’s outer shell that can result in scratches or fuzzy vision areas on your visor.

When choosing a youth motorcycle helmet, remember that a lighter model may be more comfortable than its heavier counterpart, but is perhaps less equipped to ensure motorcycle safety. You must be able to strike up the perfect balance over both features to ensure that your child enjoys comfort while wearing the helmet along with the features to provide the protection that you look for.

After you have purchased a helmet for your child, try to be cautious and careful in storing them. Avoid placing them in a high or unsteady location where the helmet could come crashing to the ground. Avoid the risk of scratching or busting an expensive motorcycle helmet by taking very good care of it. Avoid placing the helmet on the motorcycle saddle or the side mirrors. Doing so can damage the interior padding which can make the helmet unusable over time.

Motorcycle Batteries

Motorcycle batteries vary by brand. Choosing motorcycle batteries involves several important factors. You need to know a good bit about your bike in order to purchase a motorcycle battery. Motorcycle batteries vary by engine size on any particular motorcycle. Motorcycle engines range in size and are measure by cc. A small engine could be a 260cc for example, where as a larger engine size can be 1200cc. The higher the number, the more powerful the engine.

Motorcycle batteries are specifically designed for specific brands. If you drive a BMW motorcycle, you will purchase a different motorcycle battery that if you drove a Harley-Davidson. Motorcycle batteries can be purchased in several different ways. Standard type is a “spillable” battery that requires dry shipment. The acid must be purchased locally in order to activate the battery. The acid is called electrolyte, which is sulfuric acid, diluted by water. This must be added only to a dry shipped battery. Normally, acid is not needed to be added to a battery. Once a battery is purchased, only approved water should be added.

Another way batteries can be purchased is sealed maintenance free or Sealed MF.Sealed MF is a sealed maintenance free battery that comes ready to install and is “non-spillable”. Other options when purchasing motorcycles batteries include high performance, AGM types, and Odyssey. All motorcycle batteries are lead acid batteries. There are completely recyclable and should never be thrown away with regular waste. Motorcycles are easy to check charge with a voltmeter.

Biker Leather Jackets Care

A leather motorcycle jacket is the perfect choice for riding your motorcycle. It's also a long term investment so you should know about caring for your leather motorcycle jackets. Leather is durable and designed to last a long time with very little effort. Here are some tips to keep that jacket looking great.

How much actual care your jacket will need will depend on how much abuse your jacket takes. How much time it is in the hot sun or how much rain you expose it to will play a role in how much conditioning you'll need to give your leather.

If your leather starts to look and feel dry it's time to condition it. Rain is really hard on leather because it pulls the moisture out of the skin. It's actually a good idea to condition your jacket every time you wear it in the rain.

There are two schools of thought for conditioning your jacket. Many prefer mink oil is a good choice. It waterproofs it by clogging the pores similar to the way Vaseline would. Eventually it will dry out the leather and it may even leave a whitish haze when it solidifies in the colder weather. You can also use a Lexol type leather conditioner for your jacket.

If you don't treat your jacket and protect it from UV rays it will fade over time. Black leather is really susceptible to fading. Use a product like Aerospace Protectant to prevent fading. These products also condition the leather. It's rather like a sunscreen for your leather jacket.

To keep your leather dry use a spray water repellent which will protect you in mild to moderate rain falls. However don't expect it to save you in a major down pour which will soak through the leather. When spraying make sure to spray evenly and let it completely dry, otherwise you will get horrible lines in the leather.

Besides treating your leather jacket you should wipe it down with a damp cloth regularly. This will remove any surface dirt. When you are storing it you need to make sure that there is room all around it so it can breathe otherwise it may dry out.

Whenever you are using any of these cleaners or protectants you need to make sure the room is properly vented.

Never use hair gels or sprays or colognes or perfumes near your jacket. In fact avoid the use of any sprays near it.

If your coat gets wet while you are out then hang to dry where it can breathe but not directly near any heat. If your jacket develops a wrinkle just use a towel and your iron to remove it.

If you haven't yet purchased your jacket look for the best grade of leather you can afford. Always choose a full grain leather and settle for nothing less. It doesn't have to break the bank if you shop online.

Leather motorcycle jackets are as easy as any other leather product to care for and with a little TLC they'll last forever. What a great investment!

Unique Motorcycle Helmets

Looking for a novelty motorcycle helmet can be very challenging. Such motorcycle helmets can usually be found on motorcycle helmet specialty shops that offer unique design choices for the discriminating rider.

Novelty motorcycle helmets provide a very attractive addition to a rider’s getup. Whenever you want to go for a ride, use a novelty motorcycle helmet to get yourself noticed. Such helmets can make you very popular among other avid motorcycle riders in no time.

There are many ways that you can have your own novelty motorcycle helmet. There are many shops that offer you a selection of novelty designs that you might find very attractive indeed. If this fails, you can always have one custom made for you. You can have a certain design for a helmet in your mind and you might want to have one. The best thing for you to get one is by having one custom made. That way, even your choice designs are made to your exact specifications, giving you a helmet that looks and also feels good on you.

Once you have your own novelty motorcycle helmet to use, you should be able to know how to take good care of it. Such motorcycle helmets may be tough and sturdy but they should be handled as a fragile item. In cleaning your helmet, try using only the mildest soap recommended.

Avoid using petroleum-based cleaning fluids and agents on your helmets as they can cause the protective layer of your helmet to decompose. Try not to drop your helmet on hard surfaces. A dent on your helmet would be enough to cause you discomfort when you wear it and its safety and protective properties may be compromised.

Do not store your novelty motorcycle helmet near gasoline, cleaning fluids, or in places with excessive exhaust fumes and heat. Materials that make up your motorcycle helmet may react chemically in such environments and may be invisible to the naked eye.

Read instructions carefully about painting or decorating your helmet. The material composition of your motorcycle helmet can change if painted or applied with decals. Try also to avoid hanging your motorcycle helmet on your side mirrors, turn handles or sissy bar. This can damage the inner liner of your helmet which can make it unusable after a short time.

Try to follow these tips to ensure that your novelty motorcycle helmet continues to provide you with the comfort and protection that it was designed for. Care and awareness is important in prolonging the life of your helmet.

Understand Motorcycle Racing

Hot Biker must understand motorcycle racing that you see on TV. All the sports channels these days broadcast some sort of motorcycle racing event. They are so many that, at some point, you do not understand what is what, which is which. So, here is a short list of some popular types of motorcycle racing there are out there:

1. Road racing. The best known, since they are best represented by MotoGP and Superbike and by pilots like Valentino Rossi, Casey Stoner or Troy Bayliss. This type of races take place on a circuit or on closed roads. Other events include Isle of Man TT, Macau Grand Prix and more.

2. Drag Racing. Sometimes also called sprints, these races involves two bikers riding from a start line, on a short distance, to the finish line. Illegal road racing usually use the same style of racing. These kind of races (drag racing, that is) do not see too much TV time, though.

3. Motocross. This is exactly like road racing, just on harder terrain. Of course, if they use ssuperbikes on circuits, you will see offroad bikes here. Another thing you will notice (besides the difference in the terrain, of course), is that you will see a lot of bikes "flying" around, because of the jumping style later years and advances in motorcycling suspension technology brought. TV sure loves this kind of races, since they are, along with road racing, the stars of TV motorcycling programs.

4. Enduro. Enduro racing tests the endurance of the pilot and the resistance of the bike on a set of different terrains and on a longer period of time than usual racing. Usually, it envolves laps of 10+ miles, on a period of time of 3 to 4 hours, even more. Of course, one of the most important event, though a Rally, is the Dakar Rally.

5. Trials. Ever seen the guys jumping around on their bikes on barrels and boxes? That is indoor trials. Usually, it involves a biker, a time limit and a set of obstacles that the biker has to overpass without puting either of his legs down and, often, without stoping the forward motion. Quite a race of skills, it has a huge fun base and following, coming close to extreme sports.

So, here is a short recap of the most important motorcycle types of racing. When you read sports section, when you watch sports show, you will usually see one of these above. 21hotbiker is a site where you can add all the news you read and can read all the news others have found.

Valentino Rossi celebrates 30th birthday

Perhaps the most talented and gifted rider of all time, the current MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi celebrates his 30th birthday on Monday.

As he prepares to undertake his 14th season of World Championship competition the legendary Italian rider Valentino Rossi turns 30 on Monday and he is sure to be celebrating in style.

The reigning king of MotoGP, who last year won his sixth premier class title with an incredible haul of nine wins, 16 podiums and 373 points, will go in search of further glory in 2009, but as he reaches 30 years of age will surely allow himself a moment of reflection on what has been a truly remarkable career to date.

The Doctor, as he is affectionately known to his millions of fans across the globe, has been the World Champion in all three Grand Prix categories, taking 125cc, 250cc and 500cc/MotoGP titles in his second season in each class. He is just the second rider in history to have won all three titles, alongside Englishman Phil Read.

Rossi is the only man to have won the premier class MotoGP World Championship with 500cc, 990cc and 800cc machinery, returning to the top in 2008 after two seasons away from the pinnacle.

In MotoGP’s first ever visit to Indianapolis last year, the Fiat Yamaha rider took the record for all-time premier class race victories from one of his idols Giacomo Agostini, incidentally the only other rider to have regained the title after two years away, with a 69th triumph. Rossi raised that tally to 71 with further wins at Motegi and Sepang at the end of last season.

The son of Graziano Rossi, a celebrated rider of the 1970s, the younger Rossi entered Grand Prix racing with Aprilia in 1996, even winning a 125cc race in his first season. He went on to win the 125 world title in 1997, and after a move up to 250s with the Italian brand, he collected the quarter-litre title in 1999. He then made a move up to the premier 500cc class in 2000 with Honda, challenging for the title in the first season, picking up two victories and second place overall in the championship.

After winning the last 500cc World Championship in 2001, the following year he dominated once again in the first ever MotoGP four-stroke series onboard the Honda RC211V. He was just as untouchable the following season, before accepting the biggest challenge of his career by leaving the Honda camp and taking a Yamaha ride for 2004.

An historic year for Rossi began in the first race at Welkom, when he became the first rider ever to take consecutive victories for different factories, with a further eight wins sealing Yamaha’s first title in over a decade.

In 2005 he added to his previous triumphs, again achieving nine wins on the road to the title, his second with the Yamaha team. Linked with a move to four wheels, Rossi announced that he would stay with Yamaha for another year at Mugello in 2006, and was further spurred on by World Championship wins for rivals Nicky Hayden and Casey Stoner – ultimately regaining the title last September in Japan.

Highlighting his dominance during his career, Rossi has ended eight of his thirteen Grand Prix seasons as a World Champion, whilst in the premier class alone he has a win percentage of 47.3% with his 71 victories in 150 races, putting him well ahead of Mick Doohan (39.4%) and Kenny Roberts Sr (37.9%).

Signed up for the next two seasons with Fiat Yamaha, Rossi now has his sights set on Agostini’s record of eight premier class titles and the accolade of the greatest rider of all time. Like the iconic Agostini he is assured of officially becoming a MotoGP Legend when he eventually retires.

Rossi’s most recent outing on MotoGP machinery saw him commence his title defence preparations with a successful test in Malaysia, his trip to South East Asia also giving him the opportunity to make a public appearance for Yamaha Indonesia in Jakarta, where he was received by thousands of ecstatic fans – once again underlining his enduring popularity as a truly global sporting hero.

The MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi has received Happy 30th Birthday messages from a number of his closest friends, his family and several World Championship rivals.

Valentino Rossi has had an immensely successful career to date, winning eight World Championships, 97 races in all classes and becoming the most successful premier-class rider of all time. As he enters his 14th season in the MotoGP, his sixth with Yamaha, he is still a dominating force in the sport, having recaptured the title in typically exciting style last season.

Below is a collection of quotes from colleagues, fellow riders, family members and a few of his more famous fans. Courtesy of Yamaha Factory Racing, some are recollections of favourite moments with Valentino, whilst some are simply messages for him on the day he turns 30.

DAVIDE BRIVIO (FIAT YAMAHA TEAM MANAGER)
“I don't really have a favourite memory of Valentino, or at least it's difficult to choose the ‘absolute best!’ The first one that comes to mind however is just after the Welkom race in 2004, his famous first MotoGP race with Yamaha. Before Valentino finally joined Yamaha, during one of the meetings the previous September, he said that he wanted to win his first race with Yamaha! This immediately created a lot of pressure for me and for Yamaha, but anyway I promised him that we would all try all our best. Honestly at that time I felt that it was going to be a very difficult thing to achieve! During the final few pre-season tests the chances of doing it began to look better and better, but in a race itself anything can happen. Incredibly, he won that race in Welkom and just after it, after the technical meeting had finished, we were alone in his changing room. Somebody had left a bottle of wine in the fridge and we opened it and raised a toast to that day way back in September, when he had first said that he wanted to win this race. “We did it!” I said to him. It was a very emotional moment for me because it was the moment we achieved our very first target together. Happy Birthday!”

CESARE CREMONINI (SINGER AND FRIEND)
“Vale is a fighter, but armed with a smile. I've never seen him lose his humanity, even in the most difficult moments. One time I found him making gags and jokes as if he was at home with friends, when in fact he had just a couple of minutes to go before a decisive race. While he was putting on his leathers, ready to go out and challenge the world, he transmitted a joy for life, listening to a song on his ipod. “Ciao Ragazzi! See you later!” He said. Then came a sweeping victory at the limits of possibility and a long night of partying together! Happy Birthday, Vale!”

TOM CRUISE (ACTOR AND ROSSI FAN)
“Valentino, you are a true champion. You keep raising the bar, relentlessly pursuing the next race, the next challenge, the next championship. I also know that the victories don't necessarily become easier. You have to dig deeper, work even harder, become more focused to overcome the distractions. That's what you do. And I, like countless others, know that when you're on that track anything is possible. It was my great pleasure to be there at Laguna Seca and see you take that victory. I can honestly say I've never seen anything like it! You certainly don't disappoint! Thank you for all the great races you have given us, and for all the great races yet to come. Happy Birthday.”

DANIEL DAY-LEWIS (ACTOR AND ROSSI FAN)
“Every race, every win, every championship! Vale the kid in the portaloo is an old favourite, always irresistible in victory and gracious in defeat (not that he had to prove it very often!) But the all-time favourite memory for me would be him at Laguna Seca going inside Stoner through the dirt. Death or glory; the whole race an answer to those daft enough still to have a question. And to have shaken the hand of that man - that I won't forget either.”

ALDO DRUDI (DESIGNER AND FRIEND)
“Cattolica, August 1996, 2pm, very hot. I'm travelling by motorbike on a deserted road towards the sea, when a small and colourful outline appears from an intersection ahead, going very fast. A young boy on a scooter ‘closes' the corner, accentuates the bend, runs around the pavement, straightens up and pulls a wheelie... he holds the wheelie on the aqua-green Zip for more than 200 metres, still on the gas. I accelerate and catch him up. The boy lets go of the left handlebar and lifts the left hand in a sign of victory. I recognise him and follow him. Finally he lowers the wheel and with his feet on the footrests he throws embraces and salutes all around the road to his imaginary fans. He notices me, right beside him, and smiles. Happy Birthday Vale!”

COLIN EDWARDS (TEAM-MATE 2005/06/07 AND NOW TECH 3 YAMAHA RIDER)
“I have a few fond memories of Vale starting from 2000. Our 2002 victory at the Suzuka 8-Hour was something special, but I'd have to say my one memory that stands out is Laguna 2005. Basically, we were both healthy and fighting for every inch. I did have a slight advantage knowing the track since 1992. As I can recall, it was the first time we were together on track racing close; as most would confirm, he was usually ten seconds in front of me leading by this point in the race! Then he mounted a charge on the last two laps that came up just short...I was happy we didn't have one more lap! Haha!!!! It's not really a memory that I beat him, it's more of a memory of racing side by side with what I consider ‘The Goat’, which translates as The Greatest Of All Time. Happy Birthday, you old man!”

CARMELO EZPELETA (CEO, DORNA SPORTS)
“My favourite ‘Valentino moment’ is remembering the unique human quality that he showed after his battle with Nicky Hayden for the 2006 MotoGP Championship. It is very easy to behave like a champion when you win, but Rossi's attitude after losing was admirable and impressive.”

LIN JARVIS (MANAGING DIRECTOR, YAMAHA MOTOR RACING)
“It's difficult to think of a single moment but I guess one of the most memorable moments was during the 2003 season when Valentino had his first meeting with the Yamaha YZR-M1. We had started our secret discussions earlier that year for a possible future move to Yamaha. Vale said he wanted to have a real look at the Yamaha M1 bike so we agreed to organize a secret rendezvous in the paddock at the Donington GP. To keep it secret we arranged to meet on Saturday night in the Yamaha Factory Team pit box. After midnight Vale arrived in a dark parka jacket with the hood up. He looked like a burglar coming to steal our stuff! Once inside he greeted everybody there and introduced himself and then took his time to look at Carlos Checa's M1 from every angle before asking our permission if he could sit on the bike. We were so surprised by his humility and modesty and even more surprised when he paid a complement to us by stating that it was ‘not so bad’ after all. His attitude on that first night time meeting said a lot about the man. Since then I have seen a hundred more examples... Happy Birthday, Vale!”

JORGE LORENZO (FIAT YAMAHATEAM-MATE, 2008/09)
“I want to say Happy Birthday to my team-mate Valentino. It is great for me to be racing with a legend like him, but maybe now he's 30 he might slow down a little bit!”

MARCO MATERAZZI (INTER MILAN FOOTBALL PLAYER AND FRIEND)
“We met thanks to Inter, but we became friends thanks to motorbikes: our two great passions! Now the stadium and the circuit are occasions to be fans for one another and to try to bring good luck; you for me and I for you. But the moment in which we feel the truest friends is when we're having dinner together at my house, sitting together at the same table. There we are just Marco and Valentino, two who for many reasons see life in the same way. Today I am just like you, when you put your number on to race it is the double of me when I put mine on to play, because I have 23! For your 30th I give you ‘double’ greetings. And one more special thing to remember, to succeed in keeping our ‘secret’ promise, the one which we can only tell when we've achieved it! Happy Birthday Vale!”

GUIDO MEDA (ITALIAN TV COMMENTATOR AND FRIEND)
“The end of testing, the slow-down lap. Valentino sees you from the track and goes to wave at you. It's a quick movement and it seems trivial, but it's a sign, a sign of how he focuses his attention; on the bike while he needs to, on the man when he can. He separates the moments, detaches them, changes and reasons. This is why everyone always wants him as their poster boy. The Valentino I know above all defeats what is normal while the legend grows. Now he turns 30, what can I say? As before, he still has his feet on the ground. He is ruthless and very much a perfectionist. He is easy-going and always curious with his own taste for an interesting life, but he is normal. After eight titles and 97 victories, I would like to be sure that I tell the story in the right way and, although the legend continues to grow, I can always find simple words.”

STEFANIA PALMA (MOTHER)
“I have thought about what to tell you through the media for your 30th birthday... I could have dealt with sun, stars, mountains, love and happiness... but I feel it is more right to say, simply... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”

CARLO PERNAT (JOURNALIST AND FRIEND)
“How could I not love you, Valentino? The champions know exactly what they have to do, instinctively. I remember in 1997, when we were making your first TV advert. You had to endure a day with a fussy and long-winded director, who couldn't finish and had to adjourn until the next day. You left and, with your friend Uccio you called to warn that you were already home at your house, and where you were staying also the next day! Straugurissimi, Legend!”

WAYNE RAINEY (WORLD CHAMPION WITH YAMAHA 1990/91/92)
“Happy 30th Birthday Valentino! I love to watch when the odds are against you, the battle is on. Your passion to win is visible and I respect that very much. 30 years old...life is just beginning for you!”

KENNY ROBERTS SENIOR (WORLD CHAMPION WITH YAMAHA 1978/79/80)
“Valentino, when I first saw you ride at the ranch in Barcelona... I thought Kevin Schwantz was tall and skinny! You were very impressive then as you are now! Good luck and Happy Birthday!”

GRAZIANO ROSSI (FATHER)
“Simply... I would like to wish him to get to 40 without growing up anymore and then after 40... let’s see!”

RINO SALUCCI (FRIEND AND PRESIDENT OF OFFICIAL FAN CLUB)
“Am I asking too much if I ask for 30 more years of excitement? Well, I can live with half!”

UCCIO SALUCCI (BEST FRIEND)
“I hope that for the next 30 years Vale will be as fast as he has been in the previous 30 and that he gives us more passes and excitement like we had at Laguna Seca 2008. 30 more Corkscrews, Vale!”

MARCO SIMONCELLI (250CC WORLD CHAMPION AND FRIEND)
“Happy Birthday, Bomber! Although you are now 30, try to give us as much excitement as you have given to us until you were 29!”

GIGI SOLDANO (OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHER AND FRIEND)
“I know that every time I work with him something different will happen once again. One more time his image is in front of my lens and once again I have a different feeling and taste to be working with him. His little wrinkles, his determined gaze with his piercing eyes, which look right through you if you are not quick to change the shot. We play a game and by now he knows what expression I want before I have even asked, just like a team-mate in a match. The expressions stay in my mind as memories. This is what having Vale in front of the camera means, every time. I am always happy that I have the good fortune to work with him. Today he is posing for me with a chocolate cake to celebrate his 30th birthday. I shoot it as simply as possible; It's not necessary to have anything else to make it a unique shot. A white background is enough, and once again we relax into the ‘groove'. A song comes into my head: "When you have a sunny day in December, you can say that summer is already here! Congratulations, Vale!”

JAMES TOSELAND (TECH 3 YAMAHA RIDER)
“30 is a big milestone for a racer because, even though you're not really old as a person, you're starting to be one of the older ones in professional racing and you start to feel that you can't go on forever! I don't think it's a problem for Valentino however, he seems to still feel 25 so as long as that continues he'll be just fine! Happy Birthday and have a great party!”
